TMDY – 7

Yangon – Mandalay – Pyin U Lwin (Maymyo) – Bagan – Yangon

Day 1:  Yangon. Arrive Yangon Airport and transfer to hotel with afternoon at leisure. Evening visit to the Shwedagon Pagoda. Overnight in Yangon.  

Day 2:  Yangon – Mandalay. Morning Tour Highlights: Yangon’s Chaukhtatkyi – the Reclining Buddha, Meditation Centre, Karaweik Hall and Royal Barge on the Kandawgyi Royal Lake. Afternoon Tour Highlights: Sule Pagoda, National Museum, and Bogyoke Aung San (Scott) Market. Evening transfer from your hotel to Yangon Railway Station. Overnight on train to Mandalay. (14 hours)

Day 3:  Mandalay. Arrive Mandalay Railway Station and transfer to hotel for breakfast. Morning Tour Highlights: Mahamuni Pagoda, marble stone carving, Buffalo Point and Zegyo Market. Afternoon Tour Highlights: Mandalay Royal Palace Moat, traditional silk weaving and handicrafts workshops, Shwenandaw (Golden Palace) Monastery, Atumashi Pagoda, Kuthodaw Pagoda and Mandalay Hill. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 4:  Mandalay, Sagaing & Amarapura. Morning Tour Highlights: Amarapura’s Maha Ghandayon Monastery, U Bein Wooden Bridge and silk and cotton longyi weaving workshops. Afternoon Tour Highlights: Cross the Ayeyarwaddy River on the Inwa (Ava) Bridge to the Kaungmudaw Pagoda, Sagaing Hills and Ywataung Village – known for its silver craftsmen. Visit Mandalay’s traditional handicraft workshops for marble work, gold leaf and tapestry. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 5:  Mandalay – Mingun – Pyin U Lwin. Morning Tour Highlights: Excursion by boat up the Ayeyarwaddy River to Mingun Village visiting Mingun 90-ton bell, Mingun Pagoda and Myatheindan Pagoda. Afternoon Tour Highlights: Scenic two hour drive up to Pyin U Lwin, a hill station 1100 metres above sea level. Transfer to hotel. Stagecoach ride through town and Botanical Gardens. Overnight in Pyin U Lwin.

Day 6:  Pyin U Lwin – Mandalay. Tour Highlights: Morning market, Forest Museum, Peikchin Myaung Cave, Pwe Kauk Waterfalls and return to Mandalay in the afternoon. Transfer to hotel. Overnight in Mandalay.

Day 7: Mandalay – Bagan. Morning departure by road for Bagan (6 hours drive). Visit Mt. Popa and its sanctuary at the summit. Arrive Bagan for evening sunset from Bupaya Pagoda on the banks of the Ayeyarwaddy River.
Or
Optional early morning departure by local river ferry to Bagan along the Ayeyarwaddy River. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 8:  Bagan. Morning Tour Highlights: Nyaung Oo Market, pagodas – Shwezigon, Wetkyi-in Gubyaukkyi, Htilominlo, Khay Min Ga, Gawdawpalin and the Tharaba Gate. Afternoon Tour Highlights: Temples and pagodas – Seinnyet Nyima Ahma, Nagayone, Apeyadana, Manuha, Nanpaya, Mingalazedhi, Myingaba Gubyauk – Kyi; Soemingyi Monastery, local lacquerware workshops and Myinkaba Village. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 9:  Bagan. Morning Tour Highlights: Temples and pagodas – Shwesandaw, Shinpin Thalyaung, Dhammayangyi, Thatbyinnyu and Ananda Temple and Monastery. Afternoon Tour Highlights: Temples and pagodas – Sulamuni, Sinbyushin, Lemyethnar and Nandaminnya; Minnanthu Monastery. Overnight in Bagan.

Day 10: Bagan – Kalaw. Tour Highlights: Morning departure by road for Kalaw (8 hours drive). Travellers who came to Bagan by river ferry will visit Mt. Popa and sanctuary at the summit on the way to Kalaw. Scenic drive up through the Shan Hills to Kalaw, a pine- clad hill station. Overnight in Kalaw.

Day 11: Kalaw – Inle Lake. Tour Highlights: Scenic drive from Kalaw to Inle Lake for full day excursion by private boat to see the unique one-legged rowers, Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, floating markets and gardens, traditional weaving workshops and village life on the lake. Overnight at Inle Lake.

Day 12: Inle Lake – Yangon. Tour Highlights: Drive to Pindaya to visit Pindaya Caves, lake and local handicrafts. Afternoon drive to Thazi for overnight train to Yangon. Overnight on train.

Day 13: Yangon – Thanlyin. Arrive Yangon Railway Station and transfer for breakfast and refreshments. Tour Highlights: Thanlyin’s Kyaik-khauk Pagoda and Kyauktan Island’s Kyaik – mhawwun Yele Pagoda. Yangon’s Chinatown, the fruit market, and the Botataung Pagoda. Overnight in Yangon.

Day 14: Yangon. Visit Kaba Aye Pagoda, Maha Pasana Guha Cave, Buddhist Art Museum and transfer to Yangon Airport for departure flight.
