Thailand has three main seasons per year. Northern climatic conditions are favoured by
Thais countrywide as the coolest and most comfortable. Generally northern temperatures are
between 3-5 oC lower than the rest of the country
Mountain temperatures are a few degrees lower than Chiang Mai city and clients should
bring suitable clothing; during the cool season it may even be considered cold with night
temperatures drooping as low as 2 oC over the cool season.
Average temperatures (in degrees Celsius) and rainfall throughout Northern Thailand are
displayed in the following graphs.
It is quite uncommon for rain to fall except between May-Sep. The North differs from
Central and Southern Thailand during the rainy season and continuous rainfall in quite
rare. It will usually rain heavily for a period between 30 minutes to one hour, once or
twice a day and soon dries up after the sun appears. The area is then left feeling fresh
and cool.
The rainy (monsoon) season is best for rafting and river activities
