The border pass is still US$5 into Thaichelek, opposite Mae Sai, Northern Thailand. This enables visitors to go to the Burmese market. The stamp (no visa required) is given at the checkpoint and requires a valid passport and US$5 cash. No photo's necessary. Previous to this your passport is stamped out of Thailand. Upon return most nationalities are given a 30 day stamp if they do not have a of double (or multiple) entry visa. In this case they are given the period stated on the visa. Longer stays require changing of US$120 into Foreign Exchange Certificates and a stamp of up to seven days is issued at the border. FEC's are not changeable into US$ upon your return unless you have changed more at an official foreign exchange service. |
