How to get to Phuket
By Air Thai International operates daily jet flights between Bangkok and Phuket. There
are further domestic connections with Surat Thani and Hat Yai. Phuket has international
connections with Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Hong Kong.
By Bus
Government-operated buses regularly make the 14-hour journey between Bangkok and Phuket
from the Southern Bus Terminal on Charansanitwongse Road.
By Rail
There is no rail service to Phuket. The nearest railway stations are at Surat Thani (6
hours Northeast by road, 25 minutes by air) and Hat Yai (8 hours Southeast by road, 20
minutes by air)
Around Phuket Town
Transportation within town Small minibuses known as 'tuk tuks' cost 10 baht per person
per trip anywhere within town.
Bus services to different beaches
Buses to local beaches leave from the market on Ranong Road every 30 minutes between
8.00 AM. and 6.00 PM. every day.'Fares to Patong Kamala, Sarasin, Kata, Karon, Ao Makham
and Surin are 10 baht per person per trip. Ko Siray is 8 baht and Nai Yang 15 baht. Buses
to Laem Ka, Rawai and Nai Harn leave from the circle
'Tuk tuks' may also be hired from town to go to any of the beaches. Fares must be
negotiated before each trip.
From town to the airport
Local buses leave from the Ranong Road market between 9.00 and 11:00 AM.
Jeep Rentals are available on Rasada Road and most beaches.
Motorcycle Rentals are available in the same areas. |
