Morning view from the
veranda. The tribal huts provide rustic jungle accommodation for the trekkers.
In keeping with village hospitality the elders designate specific huts for the
visitors. This is also the arrangement when other tribes visit.
Sleeping
Home for the night.
Most
huts have an open fire inside used for cooking and heat and drying corn or maize. Meals
are taken inside the same hut!
We recommend a sleeping bag in the
winter-time and warm clothes at night as it does get quite chilly in the hills.
Tribal hut
Hut styles do vary between tribes
but are essentially bamboo structures built on stilts with thatched roofs.
They are
remarkably efficient in keeping the interior cool and dry.
Domestic animals generally roam around, or are kept in pens
beneath the huts.
